Effect of aryl phosphates on toxicity of combustion gases of flame‐retardant polycarbonate/acrylonitrile butadiene styrene blends according to<scp>EN</scp>45545 railway standard

In this study, the toxicity of combustion gases polycarbonate/acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) blends that include aryl phosphates as flame-retardants (FRs) was analyzed according to European railway standard EN 45545-2 (NBS chamber + FTIR). FRs have a significant influence on evolution generated during process. experiment, asphyxiant hydrogen cyanide (HCN) detected at beginning (4 min testing) product ABS degradation. The presence promoted inhibition flame. reaction PO·radicals in gas phase resulted OH·scavenging higher release HCN CO. results suggest act first 4 do not an effect later. with lower thermal stability exhibited heat flame propagation but more toxic gases. This is attributed activity flame-retardant phase. Further, additional fire performance parameters, including (thermogravimetric analysis), flammability (UL94), smoke generation (cone calorimeter), were studied. It found reduced hazard, prevented spread flame, generation, increased time ignition, and, same time, emission differ function selected flame-retardant.
